BEFORE 1789
In
the 18th
century, Europe was divided into two regions i.e. Western and Eastern
Europe. It also had several states both major(large/big) and
minor(small). Large states included Britain, France, Austria-Hungary,
Prussia and Russia, while the smaller nations were Spain, Holland,
Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and declining Turkey . Before 1789,
most parts of Europe were characterized by similarities in their
political, economic and social set up. These features were common to
most of the European countries except Britain which had a
constitutional monarchy with a better system of government. The most
